Mary Ieona Dickinson, 89, passed away Friday, February 1, 2019, in West Des Moines, IA. Services will be held 10:30 am Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at Grace United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa.
Mary was born October 13, 1929, in Lake City, IA, to Clarence and Winifred (Wick) Davis.
Mary graduated from Iowa Methodist Nursing in 1950. She then worked as a Registered Nurse many years. Mary also worked in an OB/GYN office for several years. She was a member of IA Methodist Nurses Alumni Association, Grace United Methodist Church, and volunteered at "The Gather and Gab Shop" at Wesley Acres.
Mary loved to read and do crossword puzzles. She always had music playing in her home, except when she was watching the Hawkeyes. Mary was very involved with her family and truly enjoyed spending time with them. In her younger days, Mary loved to shop and buy the most unique presents for everyone. She also liked to spend her time at Lake Okoboji.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Paula Thornton of West Des Moines, IA; sons, Steven Dickinson of Ankeny, IA, Grant Dickinson of Urbandale, IA; sisters, Sally (Ray) Harms of Marion, IA, Nancy Zeimet of Sunrise Beach, MO; brother, Dan (Karyl) Davis of St. Croix Falls, WI; grandchildren, Chad Thornton, Nikki Kreizinger, Rusty Dickinson, Jason Dickinson, Dan Dickinson, Stephanie Warner, Erica Peper; and many great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, R Scott Dickinson; grandchild, Kayleigh.
The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 pm Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at Westover Funeral Home in Des Moines. Contributions may be made to the Grace United Methodist or the Iowa Methodist Nursing Alumni. Online condolences will be welcomed at IlesCares.com.
