Des Moines Art Center recently issued the following announcement.
Excited about spring break? We are, too! Join us for a fun, free Entirely Kids Day featuring incredible art, music, and museum exploration—all about animals! Inspired by the exhibition The Elephant in the Room: Animal as Model, we will explore the way we, as humans, see our furry friends. Tangerine, the Art Center Café, will feature a special kid’s menu that afternoon.
Drop-in any time and participate for these activities:
Painting Animal Tracks: Mimic animals that roll, bounce, and fly by painting with our hooves, paws, horns, tusks, and tails
Instrument Petting Zoo: Create wild or prrrfect sounds with the Des Moines Symphony’s Instrument Petting Zoo
Drawing Taxidermy Animals: Practice observation and drawing techniques at easels in the studios examining stuffed specimens loaned from the Polk County Conservation Board
Museum Hunt: Self-guided animal search through the exhibition The Elephant in the Room
11 am and 1:30 pm Attend a musical performance performed by faculty from the Des Moines Symphony Academy
10:15 – 10:45 am Listen to tales from the animal kingdom with stories read by Clive Public Librarian Amanda Miller
