Edward Steven Pecenka, 65, of Madrid, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2019, at the Madrid Home.
Ed was born August 11, 1954, in Wagner, SD, son of Edward Joseph and Mary (Hubbeling) Pecenka. He attended Woodward-Granger Schools and then worked various jobs in the area. He then took a job in maintenance at Polk City Manor in Polk City and later with the Madrid Home until his retirement in December of 2017.
Ed enjoyed metal detecting, coin collecting and working with the goats at Swede Point Creamery. He also was an avid runner and love to participate in 5 K races in the area. Ed also volunteered on the Madrid EMS where he served as Captain for many years and then took over Fire Chief for the Madrid Fire Department from 1984 to 2016.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son Scott Pecenka
Ed is survived by his partner of 40 years, Debra Browns, children; Chris Pecenka of West Des Moines, Randy Pecenka of Madrid, Sarah Pecenka of Granger and Ryan Pecenka of Madrid, a grandson Michael Pecenka, his sister Dee Strait of Perry and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 13, 2019, at the Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Madrid where friends may call beginning at 11:00 a.m.
